Schneider Am Maar Restaurant in Schalkenmehren

Any snail would overtake the waitress. We had ordered 2 cakes one of them with cream. 2 cakes were brought that we hadn't ordered. No cream either. At the cake counter, I pointed to the cakes I wanted and they came. Shortly afterwards the condition came back to us with again the cake. Paying was interesting too. The staff cannot add 2 and 2 together! The waitress miscalculated several times and then finally asked my wife to do the bill herself. You really don't have to go here. One star is still too much for this lame and incompetent gastronomy.

I haven't stayed there. I had lunch there and it was really good. The menu was varied and the decision was very difficult. Everything sounded very tasty. I can recommend the restaurant. Try it out. The kitchen is actually open all the time, but the kitchen takes a short break from 5 to 6 p.m. Klaudia Hellmann

We received a very friendly welcome on arrival. We had a great room with a beautiful view of the lake. In the afternoon we ate very, very delicious cakes, by the way, we couldn't try all the cakes, but they all looked great. On the menu for dinner there was something for every taste and we enjoyed the food very, very delicious, the waitresses were polite and very helpful, we will definitely come back again, thanks again

For the second time we had booked the midweek offer with friends. The renovated rooms were clean and cozy. The menus and the breakfast buffet were excellent nothing was missing. The staff was attentive and friendly.

Nice family hotel here we felt at home. If at the end of the holiday you have the feeling it was too short, then you did everything right. We booked again right away. Despite Corona everything was well organized. We look forward to next time and the great hikes

The visit to the restaurant on Sunday afternoon was a disaster: 5 ordered ice creams took 45 minutes and were only brought after repeated requests. In the meantime, the waitress came more often with cakes or drinks for other guests ... The whole service was completely haphazard and unfriendly. Dishes had leftover food from the previous guest, decoration was completely dusty ... The bill was then also incorrect, had several items that were not ours. Not a word of apology for the whole thing.

We had already booked several rooms for May and unfortunately had to postpone the trip due to the corona. This was possible free of charge without any problem. So we could spend a great time in this beautiful hotel last weekend. Our rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. Everything went smoothly. The small queue at the breakfast buffet is then only of secondary importance and, given the quality of the food, you are happy to accept it. The food in the restaurant is also highly recommended, and I would also like to praise our friendly service. Thank you very much and hope to see you again

A lot of positive but also a lot of nagging ... 3 nights in a double room, everything was great, cleaning every day, wellness was great, breakfast and dinner and cakes were good. Unfortunately, we still felt like ghosts. We didn't get any information about the hotel, we didn't know that you had to register for the wellness, we didn't know that boiled eggs had to be pre-ordered, we didn't know when to check out or how the parking barrier worked. At the first dinner we waited forever for a salad, despite the empty restaurant. At the check out we were looked at as if we had asked for something completely unusual ... Except for the nice service at breakfast, I can't say anything positive to the staff.

Expensive and bad service! Paid 9 euros for a cocoa and a non-alcoholic wheat. We would have gladly eaten a piece of cake, but we were not asked about it, we did not see a menu and the waitress preferred to clean the tables instead of taking care of the guests. Finally we had enough and paid. At the café across the street we got an ice cream to go (if we had better gone here ...). I really can't recommend a visit here!

Relaxing days in the Eifel; friendly, attentive service; tastefully renovated rooms; great food, that alone would be worth the trip to Schalkenmehren. Definitely recommendable!

The service was very friendly and quick during our visit. My meal (roast lamb) was really very good. Unfortunately, my friend's steak was cut a bit thin and almost through instead of medium. In terms of taste, but still really okay. Our dessert was delicious too.

No recommendation! We waited 1.5 hours for our dinner. Not just us, as we could observe. Our demand did nothing. Food still didn't come. We then paid for our two drinks & left. Not a word of apology or explanation. It is a cheek that we were not waived the € 5.80 under these circumstances. Since we are not from Rhineland Palatinate, we do not know what the hygiene measures in restaurants are like here. In any case, tables were not disinfected outside when the guest changed & no contact details were recorded!

We had rented a room for one night and ate in the restaurant that evening. The room with a balcony was bright and nicely decorated. From our room we had a view of the Schalkenmehrener Maar. The room was quite high, but that seems to be common practice in the region. Dinner was good. We were told that the Corona menu is not as extensive as usual. From my point of view that wasn't a problem, we found what we were looking for. The dessert was delicious to kneel down. We had to be patient until we had drinks and food. And that although I did not have the impression that there were not enough staff on duty. But it was still in the frame. Breakfast was okay. There was fresh fruit and various yogurts and quark dishes among all the other things that are standard. Only the cheese offer was weak. Here I would have expected better than bland cheese slices out of the packaging. The staff was always nice and friendly.

Rooms in the new building are basically okay, but received other rooms than those explicitly booked. The view over the camping site in front of the maar was not particularly great. The breakfast buffet was okay for this price category. The warm kitchen, on the other hand, was disappointing and still has plenty of room for improvement. The customer orientation and the friendliness of the staff could partly be better.

Service without specialist knowledge and conditionally friendly. Prices unreasonable for Schalkenmehren. The coffee was broth and the cappuccino was not good either. Cake delicious and fresh, but also too expensive. We paid around € 20 for a cup of filter coffee, 2 small colas, a cappuccino and 2x cheesecake. Definitely too much for an Eifel village. We will not be back !!

We had a very pleasant stay at the Hotel-Restaurant Schneider. Our room was very spacious, modern and clean. The view of the maar from the room or from the balcony was just great. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast buffet was missing nothing. We would love to come back.

I'm going to start in the back today. The toilet was cleaned according to the posted plan on July 13, 2020. Today is the 22.7. It smells unpleasant, even through the face mask. But it can also be due to the defective ventilation. With food: fried chop. Very! Salad only after eating. No bowl at the buffet ... Kölsch 0.3 ... That was it for me in 2020.

Excellent food. Single room and bed a little small but very clean.

The food was tasty, but the serves were a little small and over-priced, and we waited an age for it.

The restaurant's outdoor seating area was nicely decorated & the food was good. However, the service was just awful. The waitress brought our drink order minus the beer I ordered, when I inquired she implied that I never ordered it, but would bring one soon. After waiting awhile she came back with an alkoholfrei beer for some reason. So, for the third time I asked for a hefeweizen. More waiting, this time she blamed the long wait on the bartender. I waited over 30 minutes for one beer. When the food arrived my mother was given a bowl of rice instead of the potatoes she ordered. This time our waitress blamed the kitchen. She took no responsibility and never apologized for anything. One family left and walked to the restaurant across the street after sitting for 15 minutes and never being greeted. We watched another man complain & leave because they had been waiting 20 minutes and no one ever came to their table. So, unless you want to be treated as an inconvenience or completely ignored, absolutely avoid this place.

Stayed in a timber wagon (Schaeffer wagon) for one night, with friends. Atmosphere was great, breakfast included was great. Town was sleepy, pretty, very green, quiet. Had amazing dinner of traditional German food with local game (some nice veg options, too)

Food OK. Service lousy: lots of waiting and interaction with customers suggested a lack of interest to us. It took them about 15 minutes to bring our bill, and when we asked if we could pay by card the grumpy manager simply responded "If it is above 25 Euros" without even looking at me. Go elsewhere is our advice.
